Chinese New Year 2023, on 22 January 2023, celebrates the Year of the Rabbit. Celebrations kick off with a colourful parade in London’s Chinatown.

London is renowned for hosting some of the biggest Chinese New Year celebrations outside of Asia. So what better reason to join the throng in London’s Chinatown?! Traditionally, the colourful celebrations start on the Charing Cross Road in London’s West End. After that, they snake along Shaftesbury Avenue, through to Trafalgar Square.

Follow the noisy festivities as they weave through London’s streets. Then join the crowds in Trafalgar Square where dance troupes and acrobats take to the stage with traditional music and dazzling dance performances. Finally, a grand finale of fireworks brings an end to the day.

Alternatively, head instead for one of the many restaurants in Chinatown and enjoy some great Chinese food! Traditional New Year food includes dumplings, sweet rice balls and long noodles to ensure a year filled with wealth, family togetherness and longevity.

Timing

The parade starts at 11.00 in the morning and runs through to 16.30 in the afternoon. However, as it’s a very popular event, you need to get there early to grab a good spot.

What does it cost?
