Nothing feels quite as Christmassy as open-air ice-skating in the heart of a city twinkling with fairy lights and festooned with ribbons and bows. These are some of London’s top outdoor ice rinks.
Ice-skating at Somerset House
Ice-skating in the grand 18th century Edmond J. Safra Fountain courtyard at Somerset House is just one of several options for anyone who feels comfortable on two blades. There are rink-side snacks and drinks including hot chocolate from Hotel Chocolat and cocktails in the Moet & Chandon Skate Lounge.
Central London ice rinks

The ice rink at the Winter Wonderland is the largest in the country. Away from the rink, there are also Christmas markets, fairground rides and some great food and drink stalls. You can even create your own ice sculpture at the Ice Sculpting workshops!
Other family-friendly outdoor ice rinks include Queen’s House Ice Rink, with views over the Thames, in Greenwich. You can also skate at Europe’s only rooftop ice rink at Skylight London and enjoy cosy igloos, cool bars and, of course, some of the best views across London. New for 2022 is a riverside ice rink at Battersea Power Station where Glide comprises three inter-connecting rinks with a centrepiece Christmas tree. Added attractions include fun photo booths and vintage-style fairground rides.
